A New Wind of Hope In America, by Mussie Hailu of Ethiopia

Proud to be part of a growing international golden rule movement... by Paul McKenna, Scarboro Mission

A NEW WIND OF HOPE IN AMERICA

Editor's Note: This letter was initially addressed to the Golden Rule Discussion Group. In turn it was forwarded to Interfaith Unity for publication in this issue. Dear Friends:

Greetings of peace and blessings from Ethiopia .  Following the election process and having just finished watching the speech of Barack Obama after his election as the 44th President of the United States , I felt moved to write you to share my renewed hope for the world after today's outcome.  I believe that the election result gives us hope that a commitment to peace, healing, and solidarity will prevail under new leadership in America

A new chapter has begun for the United States and for the world and a new wind of hope is blowing in America .  It is a chapter that brings healing and reconciliation for all of us.

This is a historic day for America to have elected an African-American President.  But it's not only his race that makes this election special.  It is the message and core values he strongly upholds of unity, peace, and solidarity for America and for the world.

I am hopeful that the climate will now be more conducive to amplify our efforts to bring interfaith dialogue, peace and healing to the Earth and all living beings.   President-Elect Obama, during his campaign, highlighted that change is the only way to address the rights of all, and to bring harmony among races, cultures and religions.  For America , the home for different ethnicities, cultures and religions, to have a president who embodies and embraces all without partiality is indeed a breakthrough and inspiration for all of us.

Finally, it gives us hope in other parts of the world to see a great leader be elected by the people, for the people and with the people.

My best wishes to all our brothers and sisters in America .

  May Peace Prevail on Earth.

  (Signed) Mussie Hailu

Proud to be part of a growing international golden rule movement...

A Letter by Paul McKenna

Dear Golden Rule allies:

Scarboro Missions is proud to be part of a growing international golden rule movement that inspires and is inspired by other emerging international movements in the realm of racial justice, gender justice, social justice, economic justice, environmental justice, justice for indigenous peoples and justice in terms of our relationship with other species.

We also salute Mussie Hailu and our interfaith colleagues in Ethiopia who are working to establish an international Golden Rule Day - April 5. To support this effort you can contact Mussie at mussiepeace@yahoo.co.uk

Below, please find comments on the Golden Rule made by US President- elect, Barack Obama, earlier this year :

"In the end, then, what is called for is nothing more, and nothing less, than what all the world's great religions demand - that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Let us be our brother's keeper, Scripture tells us. Let us be our sister's keeper. Let us find that common stake we all have in one another, and let our politics reflect that spirit as well."
